US coach

For student-athletes from American universities taking part for the first time

Traditionally, American and Vietnamese university students team up to teach together in camp.  Due to ongoing Covid restrictions, which will prevent Americans from traveling in person to Vietnam, Coach for College has modified its program for Summer 2021.  A trial run of the 2021 model was tested out live in January, with student-athletes from Duke and Stanford joining Vietnamese college student partners.  The participant feedback was positive, with both sides particularly enjoying getting to know each other though the work and the cultural exchange activities.

Vietnamese participants will teach the kids directly in person, while the Americans will join virtually each day to help plan ways to make the next day's lessons interactive and engaging.  American participants will also record videos to be used in class and in sports for the kids.  As in previous summers, each coach, along with their Vietnamese and American teammates, will focus on one subject and one sport, while sharing life skills lessons for one team of kids.

Americans and Vietnamese will also take part each day in a new cultural exchange activity or conversation, to get to know each other and learn about each other's culture.  Learn more, by clicking on Program Info, below.  Please contact Seth Napier with any questions or for further details on the 2021 format.  Listen to Seth describe the 2021 program here.

Vietnamese coach

For Vietnamese university students taking part for the first time

You will be as much a teacher and a mentor, but we call you "coach" for simplicity.  Each coach, along with their American and Vietnamese teammates, co-teaches one academic subject and one sport to all the children, and mentors one team of children more closely in life skills.  In addition to teaching, you will serve an important role, interpreting between the Americans and children.

Applications for Summer 2021 are now open.

US college student director

Leadership position, for past participants returning for a second time

Many participants wish to remain involved, and to return to Vietnam again.  The college student-director role is designed to give you a quality, real world leadership experience, which will help you develop very new skills compared to your first time participating.

Having been through the program as a coach, you are uniquely suited to lead and mentor first time participants, to help maximize their effectiveness, growth and learning.  Prepare to be challenged in new ways!

Applications for summer 2021 will be accepted on a rolling basis.  If considering returning in this role, we recommend contacting Seth Napier.
